Job placement

On-site Contract Work

POPUP is requested from time to time to assist with contract work which is done at POPUP, with POPUP equipment.  This is, however, not the rule as POPUP's facilities are primarily used for training and learners are therefore rather advised to start their own small business by forming a co-operative.

Job Placement

The range of skills programmes presented by POPUP is practical and equips learners with skills in areas where there are opportunities for employment or entrepreneurship.  At present the percentage of students being placed in full-time employment is approximately 22%.  It is our aim to increase this percentage to 50%.
Successful learners are assisted in the process of finding a suitable job in the following ways:

  1. Marketing the learners to business owners
  2. Involving the corporate sector in recruiting baseline staff for their companies
  3. Involving recruitment agencies in the placement of learners

After care days

POPUP has established an after care day to help in the employment of learners.  The aim of this day is:

  1. To ensure effective contact with all ex-learners on a regular and continual basis
  2. To maintain and strengthen the bonds between POPUP and the learners, after the completion of their studies.
  3. To create ongoing opportunities for POPUP to motivate and inspire all past learners.
  4. To continue to invest spiritually in the lives of all ex-learners.
  5. To continue to be of assistance in the quest of ex-learners to find employment.

The “After Care” reunions which are now held once every term at POPUP have proven to be one of the highlights in the POPUP events calendar.
The programme consists of various speakers and musicians.  In addition ex-learners are treated to lunch.  The reunion with old friends and the facilitators is enjoyed by all.  Teamwork and individual creativity is encouraged through games and prizes.
It remains, however the main aim of these days to increase the chances of learners being employed and therefore agencies will be increasingly involved in the programme.

Employing a POPUP learner

Consider employing a POPUP learner in your organisation.  POPUP learners have received quality theoretical and practical training, but more importantly the Biblical foundation laid in their lives, result in changed morals and values. Learners trained at POPUP enter society as changed people who can make a difference in the transformation of Tshwane.
